Many photographers should use natural light when taking pictures! After all, the use of artificial light (flashlight) is a science. For photographers who do n’t have much expertise and demand, natural light is not only cheap and convenient, and natural light is naturally the first choice.
Although natural light is beautiful, we have to admit that mixed light sources will be more helpful for us to shape the subject. The main problem of artificial light is whether you can fully grasp the use of it. If you use it well, it is an absolute plus. If it is not used properly, it will inevitably become a superfluous addition. Under the premise of not being able to control the lighting result, taking the natural light well is the basic skill that should be mastered.
So, what should be paid attention to when shooting portraits in natural light?
The biggest advantage of using natural light to shoot portraits is that it is convenient. You don't need to use complicated lighting system too much. You don't need to bring so many extra equipment. You only need to bring our lovely model and your favorite camera. You can take a photo with a reflector.
Of course, the biggest disadvantage is that the light is not controlled. We must know how to use existing light sources to create the work we want. We have no way to control the intensity, direction and quality of natural light. In fact, most of the time we shoot as soon as we want to shoot, but the time period is different, the light intensity is different. For example, the light at noon is very hard, and it will form a downward shadow on the face. At this time, the contrast of the shadow will be very high. It is difficult to ensure the details in the bright and dark parts at the same time, so it is easy to take overexposure. photo. For most people, the strong light at noon is not so flattering.
This is also the biggest drawback of using natural light, or it is a soft underbelly, we must have a sense of time. Generally, only a few hours in a day are suitable for us to take pictures, and other times, the light is not too strong or too Hard, doesn't help us get great images. So we have to let ourselves finish shooting within a limited time. It can cultivate our sense of time and also urge us to be efficient.
If we have to take pictures outside in the midday sun, it is best to find some places that can provide shadows, such as the shade of a building, or under a big tree, and try not to expose the model to the sun. Moreover, using shadows, we can also shoot some very creative works.
Sometimes, it is better to shoot in cloudy weather. The cloud layer effectively diffuses the direct sunlight and becomes a natural softbox. The model will not form such a strong rigid shadow. If there is no cloud cover in the sky, try not to choose to take pictures at noon. You can choose to take pictures in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun angle is low. At this time, the sun's rays are tilted to the sky, and the light is evenly and softly shining on the body. Easy to take good-looking photos.
Of course, the golden hour is usually very short, it may only be a few tens of minutes, so you must use this time to take a good picture, otherwise it will be dark when the sun goes down. At night we can only use the city lights to take portraits. With the colorful neon, we can also take very beautiful portrait photos.
Sometimes, when the light is not ideal, especially when the model is in a backlight environment, we need to fill the model with light. The best way to use the model without external light is to use a reflector. Maybe we do n’t I do n’t carry a reflector with me. I can also use some elements around me as a reflector, such as a white wall. If I take a close-up portrait, a white notebook may play a role, although there may be no real reflection. The board effect is so good, but it can still be needed for a while.
Of course, nothing is perfect. The biggest flaw of natural light is also the limitation of non-control. We can only passively receive light. Unlike the lighting in the studio, we can achieve any desired effect, but Only when the natural light is taken, can we master the conditions that suit people and places and take the best photos in our minds.
